Johnny Depp’s personal life may be spiraling down an endless rabbit hole, but his new movie out in theaters this weekend, ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’, is poised to have a stellar opening weekend. If you loved the original, you can’t miss all the magic in the sequel!
When we last saw Alice (Mia Wasikowska), she was setting sail for a new adventure on the high seas, ready to see the world as her father did before her. Now, Alice sets out on a new quest, one that brings her back to her friends — and foes — in Underland…and there is far more at stake for her than ever before. Here’s why you need to see this film!
It goes without saying that this film is a must for any Tim Burton fan. The King of Goth is back — though he’s a producer this time — which means there’s plenty of everyone’s favorite Camp Burton elements. As in the first movie, we’re treated to delightful tantrums from Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, anxious riddles from Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and another incredible score from Danny Elfman, as well as magnificent new characters like Time (Sacha Baron Cohen).
We won’t spoil the whole thing, but this film paints an amazing origin story for all of the crucial characters, taking Alice back in time as she tries to change the past in order to save the dying, present-day Hatter. We meet a young Red Queen as Alice solves the mystery of her rather large head, find out that the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) isn’t as innocent as she seems, and we see a teenaged Hatter become estranged from his family. It’s all very heartbreaking, but it’s also essentially an action movie. You’ll be on the edge of your seat as you watch Alice slowly learn that time — both the person and the system — are not to be messed with.
