Nyle was one of my favorite ‘DWTS’ contestants ever — he was full of heart and determination, and overcame a huge obstacle to win the Mirrorball trophy. Here’s why he deserved it.
Deaf model Nyle DiMarco, 27, and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd took home the Mirrorball trophy on the May 24 finale of Dancing with the Stars and their final dance left me in tears. Nyle was one of my favorite celebs EVER — do you agree?
I was not shedding a few tears after their final dance, I was full on, ugly crying (from happiness)!
Nyle’s journey was so emotional and packed with heartfelt moments. From his very first Cha Cha, I knew he had something special, and every week he proved it to me again and again.
He made me cry tears of joy every time he danced. When he performed his powerful Paso Doble, which featured a silent section, to give the audience at home a small taste of what it is like for him to dance without being able to hear the music, judge Carrie Ann Inaba was brought to tears.
On the May 23 finale, Carrie Ann said his freestyle was her favorite dance in all 22 seasons! Quite the compliment!
Nyle DiMarco: ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Winner — Most Inspirational Ever
I’ve loved Nyle since the beginning, and even as we neared the end, I knew he had a great shot at winning. To be honest, I think Paige Vanzant was technically a better dancer, but she does have a lot of background in dance, and I just felt more emotionally connected to Nyle.
Nyle told HollywoodLife.com and other reporters after the finale: “You know the one thing I can point out is this is for the seventy million deaf people in this world, that is why I am here. They are the reason and they are the reason I did so well every week! They really gave me that inspiration every week. I am really glad and thankful for them.”
