Amber and Johnny first met when they starred together in 2009’s The Rum Diary, which was shot in sexy and tropical Puerto Rico. But they didn’t couple up at the time because Amber was in a serious relationship with female photographer Tasya van Ree, and the actress officially came out at a 2010 GLAAD Awards, saying “I love who I love. It’s the person that matters.”
Well, that person she loved later became Johnny when the pair became a couple in 2012, being spotted together before his split from his partner of 14 years, French actress Vanessa Paradis, 43, had been announced. It raised eyebrows if the actor may have left her for Amber, but there was no stopping the blonde stunning from being a constant presence by Johnny’s side in the years to come.
Amber agreed to marry Johnny in Jan. 2014, announcing that they, “Couldn’t be happier to be engaged and excited to share the rest of their lives together.” The pair eventually tied the knot on February 3, 2015 in a private ceremony at the Johnny’s L.A. mansion.
Then of course came Terriergate, when in July 2015 the actress failed to declare the couple’s Yorkies “Pistol” and “Boo” when visiting Johnny on the Australian set of Pirates of the Caribbean 5. That infuriated the nation’s agriculture minister who charged her with two counts of illegally importing the dogs and one count of producing a false document. On Apr. 18 she pleaded guilty to the latter count and the couple had to make a super awkward apology video for smuggling the pooches in to the country.
Oddly, that would be one of the last times the couple was seen together as she remained absent from Johnny’s May promotional duties for Alice Through the Looking Glass and dropped the divorce news on him just two days after his beloved mother died.
HollywoodLifers, are you shocked that Amber is divorcing Johnny?
