Big news, YouTube fans! YouTube Red is premiering Bad Internet on May 25. The CollegeHumor series is set in a world where people take their web obsessions too far and things get CRAZY! YouTube Red is getting bigger and bigger! The Netflix-type service for YouTube added even more original shows on May 25, and iJustine was thrilled to be a part of Bad Internet. Each episode of the show will touch on a different internet topic, from Amazon shopping addiction to taking Buzzfeed quizzes too far, but hers will be all about YouTube Hunger Games – where ‘tuber stereotypes fight to the death for subscribers.
iJustine explains that the Hunger Games references will be relatable, but there’s an extra layer of hilarity for those who actually make videos. “You get Hunger Games; everyone knows about it, but it’s also making fun of ourselves which is great. If you take YouTube too seriously, it loses the fun,” she explained EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com.
Luckily, she thinks creators are an easy going group, but it will be “interesting to see if people are like ‘hey! We don’t do that’. I think it’s mostly stuff we can all relate to, and we really touch on every genre.” iJustine will be playing LizzieBeth, a beauty vlogger who constantly plugs sponsors and is obsessed with subscribers, but the episode also pokes fun at cooking channels, gamers and daily vloggers.
“It will be cool to see people who might not understand to references and what they think, but the shows will touch on everything,” iJustine explains, revealing that every episode will have a different topic. “It covers all of the internet, if there’s an episode you can’t relate to just click to the next one because it really covers everything.”
So why is YouTube making their own streaming service? “I have cable and I’m not sure why,” muses iJustine. “This is how people watch TV now.” As a veteran YouTuber (iJustine has been making videos since 2006 and has almost 3 million subscribers), she’s excited to see her super-creative peers get a chance to make real TV shows. “(They are) talented creators with such huge audiences making amazing content,” she explains, gushing about her fellow web stars. “We all work together. It might be challenging to get seen but those who are passionate don’t quit.”
You can stream the first episode of Bad Internet on YouTube Red right now for free, and iJustine’s episode will air in June. We can’t wait to watch them all!
