Rest in peace, Curly Sue! Now that she’s won ‘The Voice’ and is ready to kick off an exciting career in music, Alisan Porter says she is totally done being known as the little girl from her past.
Alisan Porter, 34, has declared Curly Sue, the adorable character she played in the 1991 family film, a dead girl. In an interview after winning The Voice, the actress-turned-singer revealed that she is using this opportunity to move on from the past and make a name for herself in the music industry. You go, girl!

“I have retired Curly Sue, she’s is dead!” Alisan said right after The Voice‘s live finale episode ended. “I am now the girl who won ‘The Voice.’ I would like you all to know. Alisan’s leader on the competition show, Christina Aguilera, could not agree more and added, “Alisan Porter is born!” That’s a pretty fair trade, right?
As many readers may already know, Alisan was the star of the 1991 film which launched her career as an actress. It was a notable role, and definitely Alisan’s most well-known career highlight. Well, until now! Now Alisan is the winner of The Voice, which came 25 years after her time on the big screen.
However, Alisan isn’t ungrateful for time a child actor. “Really, I’m so obviously… like, it’s so cool that’s how my career started and I’m honored to have had a great career when I was young,” Alisan elaborated, making it clear that she has so much to be thankful to Curly Sue. But after all of this time, no one can blame her for wanting to move on.
“It’s been years, decades since that was over and since I’ve been wanting this. I really honestly, I stood on stage in the dress rehearsal during the first pass and cried my eyes out,” Alisan shared about her start on The Voice and how she knew that it was going to change everything. “Literally like the ugly Oprah cry. Because I have envisioned that moment, that particular moment for some reason struck such an emotional chord with me. Whether it’s the song, the strings, the way the stage was set up, the whole journey up until this point. It like affected me in a way I couldn’t believe. I knew at that point if I don’t win I’m going to be really bummed! But no I mean it just, it just showed me that I never stopped truly wanting this and truly working for it.”
