He’s in! Nyle DiMarco wowed the judges and stole our hearts with his moving finale performance, and now he’s made it to the finals of ‘DWTS.’ Let’s get to know the finalist a little better.
It’s official! Nyle DiMarco, 27, is a finalist on season 22 of Dancing with the Stars. You may recognize Nyle by his dance moves, but there’s a few things you probably didn’t know. HollywoodLife.com has the 411 on everything you need to know about the finalist before the big night!
1. Nyle is the second deaf contestant to compete on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’
Wow! Nyle is the second deaf person, and first deaf male contestant to compete on Dancing with the Stars. He follows behind Marlee Matlin, 50, who competed in season six of the show. Through tireless practices, Nyle found a way to dance with his hearing impairment. Nyle takes visual cues from his partner, Peta Murgatroyd, 29, by paying attention to her body movements and hand squeezes during their routines, according to ABC News. He is truly inspiring!
2. Nyle almost didn’t compete in the final round!
Nyle almost dropped out of the final rounds in the dance competition due to accident, according to Us Weekly. On the eve of the performance, the dancer received a huge blow that his best friend and interpreter, Ramon Narrod, got in a really bad accident and was rushed to the hospital. Oh no! After he heard his friend injuries were really serious, he almost forfeited his chances at the title, but decided to perform in his friend’s honor. SO sweet!
3. Nyle & Peta’s final performance was a message to the deaf community.
Following his last performance, Nyle revealed that the partner’s contemporary freestyle to Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” was actually a heartfelt message to the deaf community. “My interpretation of the song is that for hundreds of years my Deaf community has suffered oppression, marginalization, and language deprivation … but now we’re starting to find hope in this new world,” he wrote on Facebook. “It is time for our soundless message to be heard, hence the Sound of Silence… It is our time.”
4. Nyle won season 22 of ‘America’s Next Top Model.’
It seems like the number 22 is lucky for Nyle. Before dancing his way to the top, Nyle was taking over the fashion world. He won the final season of America’s Next Top Model in 2015, which catapulted him into an amazing modeling career.
5. Nyle played a recurring role on ‘Switched at Birth.’
What can’t he do? In addition to modeling and dancing, Nyle also acted on the hit television series, Switched at Birth on the Free Form network, formerly known as ABC Family. He played the recurring role of Garrett Banducci on the series in 2014 and 2015.
