Celine Dion brings us to tears again! After giving an unforgettable rendition of ‘The Show Must Go On’ at the Billboard Music Awards, the iconic singer discussed her powerful performance while choking back tears. Watch her emotional interview right here!
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards were a special for Celine Dion, but not without some tears being shed along the way. The 48-year-old singer remembered her late husband, Rene Angelil, with a breathtaking performance of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On,” then received quite the touching surprise when her 15-year-old son Rene Charles presented her with her Icon Award. Once that emotional moment was over, Celine was overwhelmed with tears all over again when she discussed the special experience backstage — even though she had vowed that she wouldn’t cry all night!
“To try to perform that song without collapsing was big enough. I turned around and I saw my son and as a mother, I really — through this whole process of our new life — really wanted to be so strong,” she told Entertainment Tonight after her performance. “At the end of the day, what I’m the most proud of is my family, my children, and I see my husband through them. I have three magnificent boys. But for him to come on stage I knew it was very hard for him and he did that for us. For his dad, for his brothers, and for me. And I really did not expect that and I thought I was going to make it through the whole night without tears and show strength and love won. And I just collapsed.”
Aww, Celine! Considering it hasn’t even been six months since the legendary singer lost her husband, we can’t blame her for still getting emotional over his passing — especially when she gets a surprise appearance from one of her boys. Celine may have been a little upset that she broke down on stage, but her fellow celebs gave her major props for being so brave and putting on such a killer performance amidst her heartbreak!
Even though she wasn’t able to completely hold back tears on stage or backstage, Celine admitted that it’s “therapeutic” to cry when the pressure becomes too much. And heck, if it results in performances like that, we’re totally fine with Celine letting it out whenever she needs to!
