Celine Dion Brought To Tears As Son Rene Charles Delivers Her BBMAs Icon Award — Watch

It was a big first night back in the spotlight of the music industry, as Celine Dion not only performed at the Billboard Music Awards, she received their prestigious Icon Award! Keep reading for how her evening became even more emotional as her son came onstage to give Celine her trophy.

There was no more perfect way to honor Celine Dion, 48, after her incredibly challenging 2016 than for the BBMAs to bestow the legendary songstress their Icon Award, and a very special member of her family was on hand for the event. She broke down in tears when her 15-year-old son Rene Charles Angelil came onstage to hand the prestigious trophy to his beloved mother.

Seal surprised her by having Rene Charles come onstage to hand Celine her Icon trophy after a powerhouse performance of “The Show Must Go On.” She was clearly shocked and brought to tears and said, “I want to be so strong for my family and my kids and I don’t want to cry in front of you,” to her eldest child before asking, “Would you like to stand next to me?” while he smilingly agreed.

“I want to thanks the fans for traveling through music for me in good and bad times. Music has been my passion before I can almost remember,” she began her speech. She also thanked, “my family, my mom who wrote my first song. my children, Rene, Nelson, and Edy, and most importantly, the one person who I know will continue to watch over me from up above,” speaking of her late husband and manager Rene Angelil, who passed away from cancer in Jan. at 73-years-old. Past winners of the prestigious award include Jennifer Lopez in 2014, Prince in 2013 and Stevie Wonder in 2012. Celine definitely belongs in their company with 17 albums that have charted on the Billboard top 200, including 12 top ten albums and four number one’s. She already has six Billboard Music Awards in addition to her five Grammy’s. She also holds the record for the most number one songs on their Adult Contemporary chart with 11 number one hits.
