It’s been on the cards for a while. With the self-proclaimed ‘special one’ José Mourinho looking for a new project, the only job in the world that he wanted was the Manchester United one. Now it looks likely that he will be appointed coach of the Red Devils early next week, according to reports.
The ‘Special One’ is set to arrive at Old Trafford, according to several reports. That’s right, Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, 53, is going to Manchester United to replace Louis Van Gaal, so say the British tabloids. The former Chelsea manager has been without a job since he was unceremoniously dumped by the London team, and the United job is what he’s always wanted!
Manchester United ended their season with silverware after a 2-1 win in the FA Cup Final over Crystal Palace, but it wasn’t enough to save under-fire coach Louis from losing his job. In truth, the fact that Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League this season after a poor Premier League campaign meant he probably had to go.
Sky Sports in the UK suggests that José’s agent Jorge Mendes is set to fly into Manchester on Tuesday to finalize a blockbuster deal for his client, who has been out of a job since November after he was sacked by Chelsea following a dreadful start to their Premier League campaign, which was the worst in their history.
But one nightmare season aside, Jose has the pedigree to take Manchester United back to the top of the Premier League. With Chelsea he won three Premier League titles, at Inter Milan and Porto he won two Champions League titles. José also won the Spanish La Liga title with Real Madrid in 2012.
His press conference have become something of legend, and famously when he appeared in front of British journalists for the first time when he appointed as Chelsea coach he called himself “The Special One,” so he’s far from modest!
José’s imminent arrival will make next season very interesting with cross-city rivals Manchester City hiring ‘Pep’ Guardiola as their coach next season. The pair had an intense rivalry when Pep was coach of Barcelona and Jose managed Real, and now the two enemies will be locking horns again! We can’t wait!
