Washington, D.C. was put on high alert on Friday afternoon, May 20, after gunshots were allegedly fired directly outside the White House. Thankfully, it is being reported that President Barack Obama is not inside the building, though it’s unclear whether or not the First Lady, Michelle Obama, and their two children, Sasha and Malia, are home.
Gunshots were allegedly fired on West Executive Drive directly outside of the White House, according to multiple reports, via ABC News. It was immediately confirmed that President Barack Obama was not inside the building or present on the grounds. Unfortunately, it has not been made clear if the shooting was just outside on the street or if the suspect was shooting into or towards the White House.
The White House was immediately put on lockdown, meaning no one was allowed in or out. Snipers immediately became present on the White House roof, keeping a watchful eye on the grounds as U.S. Park Police investigated the gunshots.
It’s unclear where President Obama was at the time of the shooting, though his location will likely not be revealed until a later time. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities have been reported, and a suspect has already been taken into custody after being shot in the abdomen, as reported by CNN‘s live broadcast at 3:41pm ET.
