[SPOILER]’s back! ‘The Blacklist’ shocked fans to their core when you-know-who showed up again alive and well on the season 3 finale. The show’s creator and star are finally speaking out after pulling off one amazing twist.
No one could have seen that shocking Blacklist twist coming. During the unbelievable season 3 finale, [SPOILER] was revealed to be alive. The Blacklist creator Jon Bokencamp reveals why this game-changer needed to happen and more!
Yes, Liz Keen is alive on The Blacklist. After fans believed she was killed off the show earlier in season 3, it was revealed that Liz didn’t die after all. The whole purpose for Liz’s faking her death didn’t really stem from Megan Boone’s real-life pregnancy, but because Liz needed to break away from Red.
“Her pregnancy allowed us to find an organic way to deal with Liz’s own childhood and feelings of abandonment and identity,” Jon told our sister site Deadline. “In the end, it was less about “killing her off,” and more about the Red/Liz dynamic. She was thinking about her child when she made the decision to try and get away from Red.”
This jaw-dropping development is going to definitely change the show, and Jon knows it. “I think the decision Liz made to fake her death will have significant impacts, not only with Red, but with the entire team!” he continued.
Megan, who has remained very quiet since Liz was seemingly killed off, finally broke her silence about Liz’s return. She revealed this was the perfect moment for Liz cut the cord with Red to get answers and protect her family. So what does that mean for Liz’s relationship with Red?
“He is consistently evasive, so it’s timely that she try other avenues to get the answers she seeks as well as actively seeking out the life she wants,” she told EW. “It’s a good point in the series for Liz to break away… A stronger Liz will suffer the consequences of extricating him from her life, rather than wish for him to rescue her again. That’s not to say he won’t, just that I think she’s become braver and not a damsel in distress.”
