With shows being cancelled faster than reservations, it’s definitely saying something that ‘Survivor’ can not only last for 32 seasons, but that it still has such a dedicated audience. So, what’s the reason for that?
It takes a lot to keep a show on the air — including amazing ratings. Luckily, the season finale of Survivor season 32 proved that it’s still unexpected and addicting, just like it has been for years. This season, Kaoh Rong, may have had a theme we’ve seen before (Brawn V. Brains V. Beauty) but it still kept us wondering what would happen next! So, how do they do it?
Michele Fitzgerald won season 32 — but it wasn’t what people were expecting. If you had asked me weeks ago, I would have said there’s no way she’d win especially against Aubry Bracco V. Tai Trang! But that’s part of the reason the show is just so good. Catch up on Survivor now by signing up for Amazon Prime.
Jeff revealed a huge new twist, where the final three competed in one last challenge, but they wouldn’t vote one of them out — instead, they’d vote out one of the members of the jury. And really, it changed everything. “We had talked about this idea for many years. It just felt too soon to do it seven years ago so we waited. And waited. And I think the timing was right,” Jeff told EW after the show.
“In the studio at CBS, the audience had a pretty big reaction to it and that was fun to hear,” he added. “Even though it ultimately did not have an impact on the vote, the idea is a fun one as it gives players in the game an unusual bit of power. As a side note, the only time an evacuation impacts the game if it happens early in an episode and we have to go to Tribal and still vote someone out. This season it did not impact our numbers, so our twists were able to play out as planned.”
It’s not at all surprising that the internet went WILD after the winner was announced, then Sia showed up to give away $100,000 — something not even Jeff knew was happening. It’s that — the fandom, the dedication, the realness of Survivor that keeps us coming back every season. And next season looks stellar, just like the last.
So, do you agree? Are you still hooked on Survivor?
