Nothing is every really over in today’s world. ‘The Good Wife’ spinoff is officially underway at CBS, the network just announced. So, who will it be based on?
“The rumors are true,” CBS boss Les Moonves confirmed during the Upfront in NYC on May 18. The spinoff of The Good Wife will air live on their streaming platform, CBS All Access, as will their other new show, Star Trek. Yes, the day has arrived where network shows are fully airing via streaming. This time, it will be based around the good-ish lawyer, Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski).
Just ten days ago, The Good Wife ended after seven seasons, going out with a bang. Or should we say, a slap. Alicia (Julianna Margulies) betrayed her law partner Diane — actually slapped her — a parallel to the season one slap Alicia gave her hubby Peter (Chris Noth).
“We started with this feeling that it should begin with a slap and end with a slap,” co-showrunner Robert King said in a post-finale video CBS posted. “This show is about a woman who becomes more and more confident and more and more cunning and excited about her abilities and also about power, so that slap at the end is very similar to the slap at the beginning. We always had this idea of Alicia becoming more and more of something that she was also not liking in her husband.” Michelle King also added, “We talked about the victim becomes the victimizer. And that’s really the circle that we see with Alicia.”
While we don’t know much about the spinoff yet, we know that Cush Jumbo will also star. “I knock on their door every day. I’m like, ‘What’s going on? What’s going on with the Lucca Quinn spinoff?'” she told E! “Please, I would jump—obviously—on that train. I would love for that to happen. But I’m kind of the last one in, so I have to just kind of wait to see what happens. You can’t scare the Kings off. You’ve got to be careful with the Kings.”
