Paul Feig has put together the ultimate girl group (seriously, how do I join this squad) of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. “It will haunt you every night. Whatever it is, no one should have to encounter that kind of evil — except you girls. I think you can handle it,” the ladies are told in the new trailer.
The new trailer also gives us more of their assistant, played by Chris, before and after he’s literally possessed and they watch it happen. We also see Kristen Wiig being covered in slime/vomit coming out of a ghost, clearly staying in tune with the tone of the original movie.
Now the trailers have been getting backlash for a while, but director Paul is standing by his cast — and ignores all the haters. “If it’s pure misogyny, it’s a non-starter to me,” Paul told Buzzfeed. “I go, ‘You’re somebody I don’t even want to deal with.'” Katie Dippold, the movie’s co-writer, also spoke to Buzzfeed about those who think women can’t do the roles. “There was one guy – I think my favorite tweet,” she said. “There was this man who was sincerely tying to help, who said ‘Listen, I am not exist, but women just cannot handle that kind of action and dialogue.’ I was just like, ‘Thank you so much sir. Thank you for your concern.’”
