“I found it pretty disturbing based on the facts as I know them — and obviously I very much know them, both in the capacity as a daughter and in the capacity as an executive who’s worked alongside him at this company for over a decade,” she told CBS This Morning. “So, I was bothered by it.”
In the article, women like Jill Harth and Temple Taggart accused Donald of acting ‘inappropriately’ with Miss USA and Miss Universe contestants. “He kissed me directly on the lips [when we met],” Temple alleges. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, gross.’ And he was married to Marla Maples at the time. I think there were a few other girls that he kissed on the mouth.”
But even though Ivanka admitted to being “disturbed” by the story, it doesn’t mean she’s not standing behind her father. “It’s largely been discredited since,” she explained. “Most of the time when stories are inaccurate, they’re not discredited, and I will be frustrated by that. But in this case, I think they went too far. They had such a strong thesis and created facts to reinforce it and I think that narrative has been playing out now, and there’s backlash in that regard.”
The 34-year-old added that the “lead person who was interviewed for the story and that the story opens up with was all over the news yesterday saying they manipulated what she was saying.”
She also finds it laughable that her dad was accused of ‘groping.’ “I’m not in every interaction my father has, but he’s not a groper,” she said with a smile. “I’ve known my father my whole life and he has total respect for women. He was promoting women in development and construction at a time when it was unheard of. There was no trend toward equality in the real estate and construction industry in the 1980s, and he was doing it because he believes, ultimately, in merit.”
