Ally Hilfiger shares her experience with Lyme disease in her new book, ‘Bite Me: How Lyme Disease Stole My Childhood, Made Me Crazy And Almost Killed Me,’ but she also sat down for an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife.com, in which she revealed even more about her lengthy battle. Watch!
Tommy Hilfiger‘s daughter Ally, 31, suffered with the debilitating illness of Lyme Disease for 14 years before getting a proper diagnosis. Chronic fatigue and body pain were just some of the symptoms she experienced, and which she describes in her informative new book, Bite Me: How Lyme Disease Stole My Childhood, Made Me Crazy And Almost Killed Me. Ally, who starred on MTV’s Rich Kids in 2003, also sat down for an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife.com and shared more surprising details about her struggle.
During our Facebook Live interview with Ally, she talked about why she finally decided to go public with her story, as well as what it was like to be institutionalized by her father against her will at 18, “pooping on a tray” and serving it to her dad beforehand, as well as how the testing for Lyme disease is so “archaic and confusing,” and so much more!
And while speaking about the current testing for Lyme Disease, Ally revealed that that’s one of the reasons why she decided to write this book. She wants to increase awareness about the disease and push for better testing and ways to help those that are affected.
Fortunately, Ally no longer suffers from the disease after effective treatment, but one thing she used and continues to use to help her feel better is something she calls a “toolbox.” And what that is is an imaginary box full of things that make you feel better when you’re down. Whether that is a list of songs you like to listen to, a movie you enjoy watching, essential oils, a list of friends who have your back no matter what, and more. It’s something that Ally believes everyone should have by their side in preparation for whatever life throws your way.
