Gladiators, brace yourselves. We finally have the answers as to how the show will handle Kerry Washington’s pregnancy next season. Find out how it’s all going down now!
The first time Scandal handled Kerry Washington’s pregnancy, they just simply hid her behind every possible object on set. So is that the plan this time around? Will Olivia Pope be pregnant? Here’s what ABC just revealed.
ABC’s Entertainment President Channing Dungey revealed in a conference call on May 17 that Kerry Washington’s pregnancy forced the network to “make some adjustments” — and yes, that meant the show would be moving to mid-season instead of returning in the fall as it has in the past. It will also be cut from 22 episodes to 16, our sister site TVLine reported. Thursday’s schedule will now be Grey’s Anatomy at 8PM, new show (and your next obsession) Notorious at 9PM, and How to Get Away With Murder staying at 10PM. Catch up on Scandal by signing up for Amazon Prime now.
Midseason will definitely be full of Shonda shows — in addition to Scandal, season two of The Catch will air, as well as her new show, the Romeo & Juliet sequel, Still Star-Crossed.
This isn’t the first time Scandal has had to handle a Kerry pregnancy. The star was pregnant with her first child during the third season of the show. Shonda Rhimes opted to not write Kerry’s pregnancy into the show, so Olivia hid behind Prada bags and big lamps for the majority of the season.
News of Kerry’s second pregnancy broke right before the 2016 Met Gala. The Golden Globe nominee confirmed her pregnancy by flaunting her baby bump in a gorgeous black dress at the Met Gala. Kerry gave birth to her first child, Isabelle Asomugha, in April 2014. The actress and husband Nnamdi Asomugha keep their personal lives very private, so we’ve never seen a photo of little Isabelle.
