Donald Trump, 69, and Megyn Kelly, 45, sat down on May 17 to set the record straight about his presidential campaign and their own rocky relationship. So the highly-anticipated one-on-one between Trump and Megyn was much tamer than anyone expected, but that doesn’t mean it was any less revealing! They talked frankly about their feud, which started after the first GOP presidential debate. Megyn, the moderator, asked Trump about past controversial remarks he made about women, and it really hurt his feelings. He threw a months-long hissy fit, lobbing insults at her through the press and online; his followers followed suit with even more ire.
But during the interview, he basically thanked Megyn for asking him something so tough! “In a certain way what you did might have been a favor because I felt so good,” Trump said. “If I can get through that debate with those questions I can get through anything. I think that debate meant something because I felt comfortable with the subject, and with the people I was competing against.”That was definitely almost a compliment! We get what he was trying to say, though.
Had Megyn not asked him such hard questions, Trump wouldn’t have been as confident in his next debates. Oh great, we have Megyn to thank for this! He explained his immediate reaction after her questions, too: “When I’m wounded, I go after people hard, and I try to unwound myself. I thought [your question] was unfair, I thought it was more of a statement. It’s the first question I was asked, and I’ve never debated before. I don’t really blame you, because you’re doing your thing, but I don’t have to like it.” And there you have it!
