KTLA meteorologist Liberte Chan is defending her news station for demanding she cover up her LBD with a huge sweater on air, calling SweaterGate a huge misunderstanding. Liberte said that the moment was a joke between co-workers! Click through to read her explanation!
Liberte Chan wrote a lengthy blog post explaining that the outrage behind the viral moment, in which the meteorologist was asked to put on a sweater over her dress during her weather report, is misplaced. There was nothing sinister behind the action, according to Liberte; everyone at the news station are friends! Click through to read her full explanation!
Liberte was wearing a cute, beaded LBD during her weather report, but apparently showing her arms and shoulders was far too risqué for some KTLA viewers. The local news show got a barrage of emails from angry viewers complaining about her outfit! Although she didn’t know about the emails at first, Liberte knew that getting handed a sweater was all in good fun, she wrote on her blog.
“For the record, I was not ordered by KTLA to put on the sweater,” Liberte wrote. “I was simply playing along with my co-anchor’s joke, and if you’ve ever watched the morning show, you know we poke fun at each other all the time.”
“And, also for the record, there is no controversy at KTLA. My bosses did not order me to put on the cardigan, it was a spontaneous moment.. I truly love my job, I like my bosses and enjoy working with my coworkers. Since talking to my team, I want our viewers to know it was never our intention to offend anyone. We are friends on and off the air and if you watch our newscast, you know that.”
