Say cheese! Kate McKinnon just one-upped Ellen DeGeneres’ infamous Oscar selfie by creating one of her own at the NBCUniversal Upfront in New York City, and it’s pretty epic. From Khloe Kardashian to Jennifer Lopez, the comedian did her best to include everyone in the shot. Keep reading for details!
Kate McKinnon, 32, may have just stolen the Hollywood-selfie crown from Ellen DeGeneres, 58, and she did so while impersonating the beloved talk show host in NYC on May 16. Ellen was unable to attend the NBCUniversal Upfront at Radio City Music Hall on Monday, so she made sure the audience was entertained by the SNL actor who does impressions of her on the show. Wait until you see the celeb-filled pic Kate took, mocking Ellen’s infamous Oscar selfie, and who all was in it! So funny!
“Being in this room, there’s a real Academy Awards vibe, and I have to say, the only thing that’s missing is a viral moment,” host Seth Meyers, 42, said. “And when I think about viral moments, no one’s better at that than Ellen DeGeneres. And because her show is seen on all of the NBC-owned stations and over 70 affiliate stations, and because she’s the EP of NBC’s Little Big Shots, we asked her if she could be here today and she said ‘no.’ Right away, a hard ‘no.’ We didn’t even get to the end of the question; she knew where it was going. A hard ‘no.'”
Ellen made sure to be there in some way, though. She filmed a video from the set of her daytime talk show. “Hello, everyone, I’m Ellen, and believe me when I say, I wanna be there.’ I do. So much! But I have this thing at this place and so on,” she said. “However, I have sent the next best thing—not Oprah! Please put your hands together for…me.”

That’s when Kate was seen standing in the aisle. “That’s right, I’m here. I’m Ellen,” she said. “Wow, I made it.” “Wow, so let me get this straight: there’s more than one Ellen now?” Seth asked. “Yes, Seth. We got a bunch of scientists together and we cloned me, so now there’s an Ellen in every major American city. It’s like Chick-fil-A but more gay-friendly,” she joked. “Now, I should say—I have to warn you all—something went wrong with the Ellen in Cincinnati. She can’t dance; it’s really messed up. Also…she bites. It’s all right—Ellen’s got soft teeth.” Then Kate sat on Andy Cohen’s, 47, lap, and said, “That’s a nice blazer; I have that.” LOL!
Then it was time for Kate to take on Ellen’s famous selfie. You know, the one she took during the 2014 Oscars starring Jared Leto, 44, Jennifer Lawrence, 25, Channing Tatum, 36, Meryl Streep, 66, Julia Roberts, 48, Lupita Nyong’o, 33, Kevin Spacey, 56, Bradley Cooper, 41, Brad Pitt, 52, and Angelina Jolie, 40? “Let’s get J.Lo,” Kate said. “Let’s cram everyone in here.”
So who made the shot? Andy did, along with Sophia Bush, 33, Patrick J. Adams, 34, Gabriel Macht, 44, Dennis Haysbert, 61, Jennifer Lopez, 46, Ray Liotta, 61, Elizabeth Hurley, 50, Khloe Kardashian, 31, Kourtney Kardashian, 37, Maya Rudolph, 43, Martin Short, 66, John Cena, 39, Maria Menounos, 37, Jason Kennedy, 34, Kenya Moore, 45, Kyle Richards, 47, Matt Lanter, 33, and Abigail Spencer, 34. After she got the photo, Seth and the audience shared a laugh over the “unscripted” moment. The entire event lasted two-hours, and during it, the audience got a sneak peek at what NBCUniversal has in store for the 2016-2017 TV season.
