Dancing with the Stars is seriously heating up! The May 16 show was the last competition night before the finals, so the remaining five couples really needed to show their worth! And they did — unfortunately, there was still a double elimination.

First up, the trio round.
Paige VanZant, 22, and partner Mark Ballas, danced Samba with (her boyfriend?) Alan Bersten to “Hip Hip Chin Chin” by Club Des Belugas. It was seriously so amazing! It was hard to tell who was the pro! Judge Len Goodman said: “You started with a show stopper.” Bruno Tonioli said: “Paige, you really became the star attraction all the way through…I am astonished. Beautiful!” Carrie Ann Inaba loved it! “That samba was on fleek,” she said. They got a perfect 30!
Watch the dance below:
Antonio Brown, 27, and partner Sharna Burgess were joined by Hayley Erbert. They danced Argentine Tango to “Mi Confesion” by Gotan Project. “Out you came, with the confidence of a lion tamer, taking on two wild cats. You handled them very well,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann said he has made the most progress of any of the contestants. Len agreed: “It’s amazing how you have developed as a dancer and a performer.” They got a 27!
Wanya Morris, 42, and partner Lindsay Arnold were joined by Witney Carson in an intense Paso Doblé to “Explosive” by David Garrett and Franck Heijden and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Carrie Ann got out of her seat and gave Wanya a hug. “There you are,” she said. Len said: “It’s not about last week, it’s about this week — this is what you get,” and he gave him a standing ovation! “It was the comeback we’ve all been waiting for,” Bruno said. They got a perfect 30!
Next, Nyle DiMarco, 26, and Peta Murgatroyd joined Jenna Johnson in a Jive to “Hit the Road Jack” by the Hermes House Band. They were slightly out of time and Peta slipped at one point! “It got a bit hectic here and there but you come out and go for it 100 percent and that is what jive is about,” Len said. Bruno loved that it was innocent and charming, and said it was his most difficult dance yet. “The overall performance is still so uplifting and so much fun. I give you a lot of credit,” Carrie Ann said. They got a 27!
Finally in the first round, Ginger Zee, 35, and Val Chmerkovskiy danced with Artem Chigvintsev — a Paso Doblé to “Shot Me Down” by David Guetta. “It was one of the most intense and surreal Paso Dobles I’ve seen,” Bruno said. Carrie Ann commended her beauty and growth. They got a 27!
‘DWTS’ Semi Finals — ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 22 Recap
In the next round, the couples had to dance an entirely new style.
Paige and Mark danced a super sexy, striptease version of an Argentine Tango to “One Time” by Marian Hill! “Thank God the music stopped when it did,” Len joked, saying it was “maybe a little too hot and spicy.” Bruno said it was “nasty, naughty… it felt so good…if you don’t make it to the finals, I’m going to judge in a Speedo next week.” Carrie Ann said: “You are phenomenal. I love watching you dance.” They got a 29!
Antonio and partner Sharna danced Contemporary to “Hall of Fame” by The Script. Bruno was distracted by his chiseled “12 pack” but eventually told them it was their best performance yet! “You’re not necessarily the best dancer but your presence is felt.. [you’re] so dedicated, so determined…it’s magical,” Carrie Ann said. Len said that the dance had the most spectacular lifts in the history of the show! They got a 28!
Wanya and partner Lindsay danced the Charleston to “Shame on Me” by Avicii. “You have electric feet! You are my hero tonight,” Carrie Ann said. “If natural dance talent was in the dictionary, there would be a photograph of you. I so hope you are in the finals,” Len said. They got a perfect 30!
Nyle and Peta danced Argentine Tango to “Unsteady” by X Ambassadors. Nyle danced blindfolded, which means he was dancing without seeing or hearing anything. “I don’t think anyone can appreciate the problems you have to go through to be on DWTS. You never cease to amaze,” Len said. “You have to be blindfolded not to fall head over heels in love with that performance,” Bruno said. “I love your fearlessness. It inspires me to the deepest core of my being,” Carrie Ann said. They got a perfect 30!
The last dance of the night was Ginger’s Quickstep with Val to “Fire Under My Feet” sung live by Leona Lewis. For some reason, I did not love it. I love her and I love a good quickstep, but something seemed off to me. Bruno said it will be tragic to see anyone go home tonight. “It was elegant and it was all going so well. There was just a little catch of the dress…there was a bit of a boo boo,” Carrie Ann said. They got a 29!
In the end, two couples had to go home. Unfortunately, it was Wanya and Lindsay and Antonio and Sharna. And fans are severely UPSET about Wanya going home.
Are you happy with the three couples in the finals, HollywoodLifers?
