That’ll hurt in the morning. Stipe Miocic, 33, showed Fabricio Werdum, 38, no mercy with a powerful and crafty sucker punch in their UFC 198 fight on May 14 that knocked his opponent to his knees in the first round to become the new heavyweight champion! Well done, Stipe!
Now, this fight was supposed to happen in January, but ended up being cancelled after Fabricio pulled out at the last minute with a injury. And judging by last night’s result, it clearly looks like this was a delaying tactic to stop the inevitable!
But as Fabricio came charging bullishly towards Stipe, the challenger planted his back foot, drew back a short right and released it with all his might stunning the former champ. It was brutal and rattled Fabricio so hard, he sank instantly in the Octagon and a new champ was born!
What makes this result so amazing is the fact that Stipe still works part-time as a firefighter and paramedic with the Oakwood Village and Valley View, Ohio fire departments.
He’s a lot quicker than I thought,” Stipe told the UFC on Fox crew after winning the fight. “I hit him with some shots, and he didn’t like it too much, and then I caught him with the right hand. I do have power. Some people don’t think I do, but I do.”
What a great story of the underdog winning the day through courage, hard work and perhaps a bit of luck too. But Stipe TOTALLY deserved it!
