Wow, this is truly shocking! Liberte was wearing a black tank dress covered in beads, and apparently that was too risqué for some KTLA viewers. But what’s even more shocking is the way in which their complaints were handled. Liberte was giving a live weather broadcast, when a male colleague started waving a sweater at her from off camera.
Visibly confused, she had to stop the report and put the sweater on. “What’s going on? You want me to put this on? Why, because it’s cold?” she says incredulously, taking the sweater from her colleague and putting it over her pretty dress. “We’ve been getting a lot of emails,” the man says, implying that people think her dress is too sexy. Gross! “I look like a librarian,” she says, looking at herself in the camera. “That works,” the man says, disappearing so she can finish the rest of her segment.
Her dress, while not necessarily conventional for a news broadcast, was pretty damn cute, and not the least bit inappropriate! Have these people never seen shoulders and arms before? Obviously, Twitter was ablaze with the wrath of people outraged by Liberte’s treatment. “So #KTLA handed their #meteorologist a sweater on the air because viewers were uncomfortable with her dress. What is wrong with people?” one person tweeted. “tried to wear a crop top but a #KTLA stage manager showed up at my apartment and handed me a sweater,” joked another.
Liberte posted a video after the KTLA broadcast, along with her coworkers, making fun of the people who emailed in about her dress. The man who handed her the sweater was wearing shorts underneath his desk the whole time! Another woman was wearing fuzzy socks! Liberte, clearly pissed off, explained that she had a more demure dress, but it just didn’t work against the green screen. “I’ve gotta hit it out of the park tomorrow and make everyone happy. I have to go shopping!” she said, laughing.
