HollywoodLife.com talked EXCLUSIVELY with Lana Parrilla about what’s next for Regina after Robin’s heartbreaking death. Could he return? Plus, we have major scoop on the season 5 finale!
Regina’s had a tough few weeks! HollywoodLife.com got the scoop straight from Lana Parrilla about the Once Upon A Time season 5 finale, how Regina’s handling Robin’s death, and if there’s hope for Outlaw Queen. Spoilers ahead!
What can you tease about the finale?
I would say Regina is probably stuck in a state of confusion and really kind of upset and angry because she doesn’t understand why these terrible things keep happening to her in her life. She’s coming to terms that this is maybe her karmic payback for all the evil things that she’s done. She’s extremely guilt-ridden because of that. She feels ashamed from her past life and previous life that she was living. She feels like maybe it’s because of all the horrible things that she’s done that she’s never going to get a happy ending, she’s never going to be happy, and this is karma sort of acting out. She’s conflicted, she’s confused and she’s in a state of shock.
Is she going to be blaming anyone?
I don’t know if she’s going to be blaming anyone. We don’t see that in the finale. We do see an angry person. We do someone who is upset and grieving and letting some of that anger out. She’s not necessarily pointing the finger.
Any chance Robin could return?
Anything can happen. It’s Once Upon A Time. Never say never. Who knows what could end up happening, if Robin could end up coming back. I don’t know. I honestly do not know what Adam and Eddy have in store in the future.
What will happen to Roland?
You will see a bit of that in the finale, what ends up happening to Roland. We will address that this Sunday.
Do you think Regina can find love again or is she going to take a step back?
I think she’s going to take a step back and just sort of reevaluate things. It’s way too early for Regina to move on. I think finding love and falling in love again is probably the last thing on her mind.
How did you feel when you read the script about Robin sacrificing himself for Regina?
I thought it was a true testament to their love. In our understanding, or how we would understand it in our world, is that Robin took a bullet for her. And anyone who takes a bullet for someone they love is beyond admirable. I think it was in that moment when we saw her looking at him we saw how much Robin really loved Regina. That’s what’s so heartbreaking about it because now that love is gone. But you know that doesn’t mean that love can’t carry over even after death. It can transcend death. Love will remain in her heart for Robin and how that love displays itself over the course of the next season, we’ll just have to tune in and watch. I think maybe he’s physically dead and physically gone, but I think Robin is very much alive in Regina’s heart.
Will Robin’s death push Regina back to the dark side?
I think over the years we’ve seen Regina struggle with these evil impulses and the darkness within her. We will see that struggle continue. In the finale, she opens up about what that feels like. I don’t think that losing her boyfriend in this tragic way is going to make Regina regress. I think something bigger has to take place in order for her to revert back to that evil place. There’s just been too much personal growth. I just don’t see her reverting back to the Evil Queen just because her boyfriend was killed.
