Bring on the summer braids! Lucy Hale was out in LA with a killer beauty combo — a braided updo and cranberry-colored makeup. Get the details on her braided hairstyle so you can channel the boho look this summer, too.
Lucy Hale, 26, just gave every short-haired girl (and long, too) the perfect braided updo idea for summer at the Nylon Young Hollywood event on May 12. The Pretty Little Liars star traded in her usually loose and texturized lob for a half knot, half braid updo made complete with some summery flowers woven throughout.
As a spokesmodel for Blow Pro and with stylist Kristin Ess by her side, it’s no surprise Lucy’s always rocking a style that’s totally cool. But her latest braided look is easy to achieve at home with a little bit of practice.
Making sure to add a bit of texture to your hair first, spray the Blow Pro Beach Blow Texturizing Mist through your dry hair and run a curling iron haphazardly through sections of your hair just enough to create a soft bend to your locks. Parting your hair down the middle, leave out two small face-framing sections of hair and on the right side, take a large section of the hair and braid it to the ends, securing with an elastic.
Use more texturizing spray and your fingers to gently pull the braid apart and create a looser, more volumized look. Wrap the braid towards the back of your head, gathering the rest of your hair to join it at the nape of your neck, using bobby pins to secure the updo in place.
To match her flower printed frock, Kristin added a few fresh flowers throughout Lucy’s braid, but you can skip that step or add in a few sparkling pins to make the look your own.
Makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan gave Lucy a feminine makeup look to match, using cranberry colors from mark. Girl, for whom Lucy also serves as a brand ambassador. Giving her a gorgeous cranberry smokey eye and matching pop of color on the lips, you can copy Lucy by using the cranberry shades from the On The Dot Eye Color Compact for the smokey eye and All Butter Now Lip Treat in Mauvelous on the lips.
