Farewell to the Brooklyn Brawler! A shocking report has surfaced that the WWE released famed wrestler Steve Lombardi from the organization, much to the dismay of fans. Read on for the details!
In an incredibly puzzling move announced on May 10, the WWE reportedly released wrestler Steve Lombardi, 55, after 30 years with the organization. Steve was “quietly released” from the wrestling organization the week prior, according to PWinsider.com. But why would this happen? Click through to learn more!
Steve is one of the longest tenured wrestlers in the WWE, so it’s stunning to say the least that the WWE would allegedly make this move. Steve has been wrestling with the WWE since the 1980s! Here’s the thing: there’s no word or reason yet announced why Steve was released, according to PWInsider; the WWE is expected to make an announcement shortly.
Steve joined the WWE in 1983 as a talented wrestler, and transitioned into a role in the 1990s as an agent. He also produced and created promos for the WWE. Steve still wrestled for the WWE from time to time, but was a driving force in behind the scenes work for the organization. His opinion was incredibly influential within the WWE, as well. Whether or not he liked a wrestler often determined how a wrestler would get a bigger look from the organization.
The WWE quietly made a series of other cuts at the same time of Steve’s release, so he’s not alone in his dismissal. We’re still waiting on word, and the WWE’s official statement, over what happened to necessitate these releases — especially someone who’s worked with them for over 30 years!
