To kick off the show, Blake’s rising artist Paxton Ingram gets ready to take the stage. He’s really peaked in the last two weeks, so he obviously has a lot to live up to — and he boldly chooses a Whitney Houston song, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” to do it. He, Blake and the band change the tune up to give it a more acoustic vibe, and it works absolutely perfectly for Paxton. So great!
Another contestant from Team Blake, Mary Sarah, is up next, and she sings Maren Morris’ new song “My Church.” The track, as Blake points out, is “current” but has an older vibe, which is exactly the kind of music Mary wants to make. It’s an absolutely perfect choice for the country cutie, who totally rocks out to the track and slays her performance.
Next, Nick Hagelin from Christina’s team is up to perform, and after landing in the Bottom 2 and having to sing for America’s Instant Save last week, he has a lot to prove. Nick connects to the song personally and has a newfound confidence after almost being sent home, so he breaks out some dance moves for the first time, which totally works. What a cutie!
Hannah Huston, Pharrell’s only remaining artist, is next to perform, and she sings the emotional song “Say You Love Me,” and she sounds beyond amazing on it. Looking stunning in a flowy jumpsuit, Hannah keeps the performance simple, letting her powerful, yet soothing, voice do all the talking. WOW!
Adam’s contestant, Shalyah Fearing, the youngest left in the competition, takes on one of the “most powerful songs ever written” when she sings “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Shalyah has proven time and time again that she can belt it out like the best of them, and this week was no different. Can you believe that incredible voice is coming from a 15-year-old?!?!
The final artist from Team Adam, Laith Al-Saadi, is up after Shalyah and performs “We Got Tonight” by Bob Seger. Rather than rocking out on the guitar like he usually does, he slows things down for a much more intimate performance, and shows off his skills on the piano. Is there anyone on this show more musically talented than this guy!?
Adam Wakefield, from Blake’s team, is next, and he also sits behind the piano for his performance. He brings his own vision to the performance, directing the band and doing things exactly the way he would if he was already a solo artist in the industry. His rendition of “Love Has No Pride” is so good, and the audience goes crazy for it, too.
Next, Team Christina front runner Alisan Porter gets set to take the stage. After a vulnerable performance last week, she comes out with a totally powerful rendition of “Cryin” by Aerosmith this time around. She rocks out in an INSANE way but manages to control her voice at the same time. Can we talk about that unreal growl!? AMAAZZZZZING.
Closing out the night is Christina’s final artist Bryan Bautista, and he makes a BIG statement by singing Beyonce’s hit “1+1.” It’s the perfect opportunity for him to showcase his incredible vocals in a stripped down performance. The dramatic song really points Bryan’s voice at the center of attention, and he delivers flawlessly.
One more artist will go home on the May 10 episode, leaving eight remaining to compete in the semifinals next Monday. It’s getting good, guys!
