With two games left to play in La Liga, the margin of error at the top for Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid is marginal with only 1 point separating the top teams. That’s why Atletico NEEDS to win this tough away game against Levante on May 8. Can they win it? Click down for the live stream to find out!
Diego Simeone‘s men were simply awesome against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in their last game. Led by the heroics of goalkeeper Jan Oblak, Atletico managed to hold on for an away goals win. Their defense was as fearless as ever, with Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez putting their bodies on the line blocking every shot that came towards their goal. Expect the same sort of commitment here.
But for all their great defense work, it’s easy to forget that they have forwards Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres who really work so well with the Atletico Madrid counter-attack system. They sit and soak up the pressure, lulling you into a false sense of superiority, before sneakily hitting their opposition on the break when they’ve pushed too many players forward in attacking positions.
Earlier in the season these two met at the Vicente Calderon in what was a tight encounter. Atletico needed a late goal from Thomas Partey to take a 1-0 win, in what was a pretty unimpressive performance. However, they’d settle for the same result again in this one.
With their midweek Champions League exertions bound to cause some tiredness, it wouldn’t be a total surprise if Atletico can only manage a tie in this one. But we’ll just have to wait and see!
