20,000 spectators, and celebrities including Mario Lopez, Jerry Jones, Evander Holyfield, as well as True Blood couple Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin crammed into the newly built arena to watch the epic fight, and they weren’t disappointed!
Amir didn’t waste any time coming out of the traps, landing some quick powerful jabs that rocked Canelo. His hand speed was sizzling. Again, the second round was all about skill and tactics, with both fighters easing themselves into the fight and testing each other out. But the worry is always about Amir’s chin, but in the third round he caught one plush from Canelo, although it didn’t do the harm expected and he seemed to have won that round on points. Ringside experts called the first three rounds in Amir’s favor. In round 4 and round 5, Canelo started landing some more powerful shots on his opponent, and a cut was beginning to form on Amir’s nose. Canelo was landing more punches and appeared to be doing the more damage. His right hand to Amir’s body was working overtime in hurting his rival. But in round 6, Canelo caught Amir with a HUGE right hook to the side of Amir’s head, which knocked him flat to the ground and he was counted out! It’s a KO!
Before stepping into the ring, both fighters boasted proud records. Saul had 46 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat to Floyd Mayweather, while Amir had 31 wins and three loses to his name. Going into the fight, Amir did have to step up two weight classes to face off against Saul, who is ranked number one in the middleweight division.
