What a celebration! Andrea Bocelli was so moved by the romantic Leicester City Premier League title-winning story, he joined them before their game at the King Power Stadium on May 7 to sing! Click to watch the video!
What a star! Legendary singer Andrea Bocelli, 57, is known to be a big soccer fan, but we never knew he followed the Leicester City story! The classical tenor was a guest of honor for the Foxes home against Everton and he entertained the fans before the game by doing what he does best — singing!
Proudly wearing a Leicester City jersey with his name printed on the back, Andrea burst into song, singing “Nessun Dorma” which officially became a soccer anthem in 1990 when Luciano Pavarotti performed it at the 1990 World Cup in Italy. And boy did he do a great job. Even the fans were singing along in unison and chanting and cheering!
Standing next to him was Leicester City’s Italian manager, Claudio Ranieri, who could be seen looking a little weepy as Andrea belted out the classical music hit. Not surprising though, because he’s an emotional man who has been close to tears for a weeks in the Premier League title run-in as his team closed in on an epic championship.
Before he sang, Ranieri even had his own message for his fans, saying: “I want to say to you, we are champions so much behind us. I love you! Thank you.” What a lovely man! What was also funny was how, like a school teacher, he shushed the fans from singing his own name as Andrea began to sing.
Apparently, Andrea and Claudio are good friends and the opera performer personally asked his pal if he could be involved in their title celebrations. Of course, if he asks you’re not going to turn him down, are you?!
It was certainly fitting for the occasion, and exactly what the Leicester fans deserved. It’s been an incredible year to be a Foxes fan and this is just the icing on the cake!
