It pains us to say that ‘American Idol’s’ Rickey Smith was killed in a highway wreck on May 5. He was 36. ‘Idol’ fans are devastated at the sad news and have taken to Twitter to mourn the loss of the incredible performer.
Rickey Smith, 36, was a beloved Idol contestant. He tragically died in a multi-car highway wreck in Oklahoma on May 5. Although he didn’t win the singing competition, he stood out as an incredible talent. Season 2 runner-up and friend, Clay Aiken joined other fans to remember Rickey on Twitter.
We are still in complete shock over a loss of another Idol contestant, and so are fans. Many of them didn’t have the words to express their grief over the tragic accident, but others mourned the singer by posting images and videos of Rickey performing throughout the years.
“Suffice it to say my heart is truly breaking today,” Clay Aiken tweeted along with the broken-hearted emoji. “Heaven’s choir has a new beautiful voice. I love you and will miss you, Rickey.”
The Idol Season 2 finalist was reportedly on a highway outside of Oklahoma City when another driver slammed into the singer head-on, according to TMZ.
Although he is gone, Rickey will definitely not be forgotten. He lives on through the fans and family who loved him.
