There’s been yet another terrifying school shooting, this time at a Maryland high school. A mother who was getting her kids after school was shot and killed on the spot! Thankfully no students were hurt, but having a murder on campus had to have been terrifying.
So tragic! A mom picking up her children from High Point High School in Beltsville, MD, was shot and killed just after classes had let out for the day on May 5. Police are saying it was an incident of domestic violence and apparently the poor victim and the male shooter had some sort of prior relationship.
A mom was waiting in a parking lot to pick up her kids from school when was approached by a man who began arguing with her. Another man stepped in to try to calm things down when the shooter whipped out a gun, shot the good samaritan several times in the shoulder then shot the woman dead on the spot. Thank goodness school classes had let out an hour earlier, so there were less chances of any students getting harmed by the frightening gunfire.
The bystander who tried to help the mom was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition and expected to survive, thank goodness! But the murder right there on the high school campus was witnessed by students, who were left totally traumatized. A crisis team will be at the school on May 6 to support students and staff.
There were still activities going on at the school, including a softball game taking place on a school field. Four shots reportedly rang out, causing players to scatter and hide. One girl told NBC4 Washington D.C. that, “Everyone was just crying, like we didn’t know what to do. We were just crying,” she said. “We have a crate where we put all of our equipment. They rushed us in there and after about half an hour they moved us to a locker room and they kept us in the gym after that.” Oh my goodness, that sounds so terrifying!
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victim in this terrible tragedy.
