An addiction expert arrived at Paisley Park to treat Prince for the very first time on April 21, but before he got a chance to help the singer, tragedy struck. Instead, Andrew Kornfeld found Prince’s lifeless body in an elevator…and he’s actually the one who frantically called 911.
Prince was just hours away from getting help for his drug addiction when he unexpectedly died on April 21. As the singer was taking his last breaths, a specialist was on his way to Paisley Park to help stabilize him, and this addiction expert wound up being the person who called officials to the scene when Prince’s dead body was found.

Those close to Prince called addiction specialist Dr. Howard Kornfeld, from Recovery Without Walls in Mill Valley, California, on April 20, and although the doctor couldn’t clear his schedule for an appointment with the legendary star on April 21, the specialist was set to meet with Prince on the 22nd. To fill in the gap, he sent his son, Andrew, also an addiction specialist, on a red-eye flight to Minnesota to explain how treatment for a drug addiction would work.
The plan was to stabilize Prince in Minnesota, then transfer him over to the center in California for rehab, according to Kronfeld’s attorney, who gave a press conference on the morning of May 4.
But when Andrew arrived at Paisley Park, Prince’s team couldn’t find him anywhere, and the doctor’s son ended up being the person who found the “Purple Rain” singer’s body unresponsive in an elevator.
Not surprisingly, Prince’s team was so shocked by the sight of his dead body that it was Andrew Kornfeld who made the call to 911, which explains why he didn’t know the address of Prince’s home. “The people are just distraught,” he said on the call. “We’re in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and we are at the home of Prince.”
Dr. Kornfeld’s attorney confirmed that neither Howard nor Andrew had ever met with the 57-year-old before his death.
Prince’s cause of death won’t be released until the toxicology reports are completed, which could be weeks from now. Officials are already investigating whether his death was the result of an overdose.
