It’s official, Ted Cruz is leaving the 2016 race for President of the United States. After a crushing loss to Donald Trump in the Indiana Primary on May 3, he has decided to suspend his campaign as there is ‘no viable path to victory.’ We have all the details, right here.
Ted Cruz, 45, has suspended his campaign for President of the United States. The Republican candidate has been trailing Donald Trump, 69, for the entire race, and on May 3, his devastating loss in the Indiana primary lead him to believe there was no longer a “viable path to victory.” Here’s the scoop.
America was shocked on May 3 when Ted, a candidate who has constantly insisted he would continue his campaign until the Republican National Convention, dropped out of the race for the White House. The Texas senator was coming off yet another brutal loss to Donald in Indiana, and stunned everyone when his typical post-primary speech became a resignation.
Ted started off inspirational, talking about how happy he was that his immigrant father got to cast a vote for him in Indiana. “That teenage immigrant washing dishes would never have believed it,” he gushed, emotionally. “Only in America.” Ted had his father in tow, plus his mom, running-mate Carly Fiorina, his wife Heidi and children Carloline and Catherine. He was full of gratitude as he ended the campaign.
“When we launched this campaign 13 months ago, we saw a movement,” he began. “The pundits all said it was hopeless, but we saw over 3ooo volunteers across this nation, over 1.5 million contributions averaging about $60 each. Many of those volunteers, many of those contributions, you never forget. Just a few days ago, 2 young kids, 4 and 6, handed me two envelopes full of change… that’s what built this campaign, that’s what fueled this movement. Thank you to each of you.”
“I am so grateful to you. To my amazing wife Heidi,” he said, giving his wife a big, tight hug. “To our precious girls Caroline and Catherine. To my mom, the prayer warrior, to my dad who has traveled this nation preaching the gospel, to Carly Fiorina, who has been an incredible, phenomenal running-mate.”

“What you have done, the movement that you have started is extraordinary, I love each and every one of you. From the beginning I’ve said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory. Tonight I’m sorry to say it appears that path has been foreclosed. Together, we left it all on the field in Indiana, we gave it everything we’ve got, but the voters chose another path. And so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign. But hear me now, I am not suspending our fight for liberty.”
Ted did not mention his opponent Donald at all, despite vehemently opposing him since the beginning. At the beginning of his speech, journalist Patrick Svitek said that Ted’s campaign manager told him he was suspending his campaign. Supporters were totally blindsided, as Ted just chose a running mate a week ago.
