Are you Team Beyonce or Team James Brown? That’s what this week’s ‘DWTS’ was all about when the stars took on songs by musical icons!
Things are really heating up on Dancing with the Stars — and tonight it went from eight to six couples! After the individual dances, the male celebrities and their partners went up against the female celebrities for a battle of the sexes team dance. And two shocked pairs were sent home.
Jodie Sweetin and Keo Motsepe danced the Quick Step to Stevie Wonder‘s “For Once in My Life,” and even though she struggled with injuries, she nailed it! Carrie Ann even said it was Keo who missed a step; she gave them an eight but then she got two nines!
Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd worked hard to recover after Len’s tough comments last week… and it worked. They looked incredible dancing the Foxtrot to U2‘s “Beautiful Day.” They almost landed two tens, and a nine (from Len of course). But it actually ended up being two nines and one ten — Bruno forgot that he wrote down a nine.
Antonio Brown and Sharna Burgess went gothic for the Tango to “Paint It Black” by The Rolling Stones and it looked beautiful, but did include a few mistakes and missteps as the judges pointed out. They earned eights across the board — and yes, she did have a mini nip slip.
Wanya Morris and Lindsay Arnold had a tough week with Wanya’s Boyz II Men obligations — but they pulled it together to do an amazing Foxtrot to “I Say a Little Prayer” by Aretha Franklin. It was actually one of my favorite dances they’ve done! The judges gave them nines all across the table.
Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy had quite the challenge after last week’s criticism — and he was being very demanding on her so that they could nail the Viennese Waltz to “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. Again, it worked! They were more elegant and emotional than ever. And when I say it worked, I mean it really worked: they got the first perfect 30 of the season!
Von Miller and Witney Carson were next up with a salsa to Elvis Presley‘s “A Little Less Conversation.” Whitney danced a lot but it was a little bit rough. They actually got three eights which was better than I was expecting.
Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas were the last pair before the team dances and they took on the Jive to Tina Turner‘s “Proud Mary.” It was definitely a red hot performance, and it seriously shocked me at how fast it was. It was no surprise that they also got a perfect 30!
For the team dances, Team James Brown — Nyle/Peta, Antonio/Sharna, Wanya/Lindsay, and Von/Witney — was first. It was tough with Wanya’s prior engagement with Boyz II Men as he missed a crucial rehearsal. Plus, Nyle rehearsing with ten others was a whole different challenge. However, I was in awe of this whole performance. Carrie Ann pointed out that at point, Nyle was a few steps ahead but the rest of the group all adjusted to him. That is teamwork. They scored two nines and a ten from Bruno!
Next, it was Team Beyonce — Ginger/Val, Paige/Mark, Jodie/Keo, and Kim/Sasha. They had a tougher time with confidence, but really worked together to channel their inner Beyonce. In my opinion, it wasn’t as strong as the men, but it was definitely sexier than we usually see from these ladies and they looked awesome! The ladies scored two eights and a nine from Bruno.
So, who goes home? Well it’s a double elimination… sending home Von and Whitney and Kim and Sasha. Do you think the right people went home?
