Laremy Tunsil shocked the football world during the 2016 NFL Draft when someone hacked his Twitter account to post a video of him smoking a bong! As this mystery unravels, here are 5 things about the NFL’s newest star.
Though Laremy Tunsil, 21, was picked #13 in the 2016 NFL Draft, he’s the one football rookie everyone’s talking about. The Miami Dolphins’ newest player was the victim of a major drug scandal and a huge Twitter hack. Get caught up on what’s going down by learning more about Laremy.
1. Laremy was once considered the No. 1 draft pick.
As an offensive tackle at the University of Mississippi (aka Ole Miss), he earned SEC All-Freshman honors and was named to the All-SEC First Team twice. As a freshman, he helped the offense pile up over 500 total yards during a victory over rival Arkansas.
He decided to forego his final college year to enter the NFL Draft, and for a moment, per USA Today, he was considered to be the No. 1 draft pick, expected to go to the Tennessee Titans. Even after the Titans traded their first pick to the Los Angeles Rams, Laremy was considered a hot prospect.
2. He’s the victim of a huge social media hack.
Laremy slid way down in the order, getting picked 13th by the Dolphins, after someone allegedly leaked a video of him smoking a bong to his Twitter account right before the NFL Draft. Some suspect the culprit behind the alleged leak is Laremy’s stepfather, Lindsey Miller.
3. Laremy and his stepfather do not get along.
Lindsey and Laremy filed domestic violence charges against each other in June 2015, per Heavy.com. Linsey said his stepson attacked him for no reason, while Laremy claims he was protecting his mother from his stepfather. Though charges were dropped, Linsey decided to sue Laremy days before the NFL draft, citing defamation of character and “intentional infliction of emotional distress,” according to the Clarion Ledger.

4. He may be in store for some more trouble.
Minutes after he was picked in the draft, per Deadspin, someone reportedly posted screenshots of two text message conversations to Laremy’s now-deleted Instagram account. These alleged conversations show Laremy asking a member of the Ole Miss football staff for money to pay his rent and mother’s bills, which is a huge NCAA violation. When asked if he actually took money from a coach, Laremy confessed, “I’d have to say yeah.”
5. His draft night wasn’t all bad.
Though he was no longer a Top 10 draft pick, Laremy was the highest selected offensive lineman picked by the Dolphins since Jake Long, 30, in 2008. He’s also the highest-drafted Ole Miss Player since the San Francisco 49ers picked Patrick Willis, 31, in 2007. However, this probably isn’t how he wanted to kick off his NFL career.
