Jennifer Aniston plays a stressed out divorcee, Kate Hudson’s character is hiding from her own mother, Julia Roberts has dedicated her life to her work, and Britt Robertson plays a young mom who’s always felt lonely because she never knew her mother.
The lives of these moms come together in meaningful ways. The movie has a big heart, and you can’t help but smile throughout the film. It’s a big on the long side and focuses too much on certain storylines, but Mother’s Day has really good intentions.
You’ll recognize your mom or yourself in at least one of the moms — from the mom who can’t believe her ex has moved on with a younger woman to the mom who is constantly annoyed with her own mother.
Despite America’s sweethearts Julia, Jen and Kate all being in the same movie, it’s Britt Robertson and Jack Whitehall who really steal the show. As a young couple with a baby, these two have such great chemistry and their story is real and relatable. When Jack’s character, Zack, hits the comedy stage with his baby, the scene will leave you with the biggest smile on your face. Jack is a gem.
For all the Pretty Woman fans out there, there’s a scene between Julia and Hector Elizondo that’s just so sweet. It’s a touching homage to the movie that made Julia and Hector famous.
