Congratulations are in store for Jared Goff, as the University of California Berkeley quarterback was the coveted number one selection in the NFL’s draft Apr. 28. Now that he’s heading to the big show, let’s get to know more about him!
Yowza! Unless you’re a big fan of college football, you may not have known who the tall drink water Jared Goff, 21, is until his name was called first in the NFL draft. The handsome sociology major from Cal Berkeley was picked by the Los Angeles Rams to be the newly relocated franchise’s next quarterback, so here are five things to know about Jared!
1. He is a Northern California native.
Jared grew up just across the San Francisco Bay from where he went to college, in the upscale community of Novato in posh Marin County.
3. His dad is a former Major League Baseball player.
Jared’s dad Jerry Goff was a professional catcher in the majors during the 1990’s. He played for the Montreal Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Houston Astros before eventually retiring from the sport and becoming a firefighter.
3. He started every game he played at Cal Berkeley, from day one at the school his Freshman year.
Jared’s coaches has so much faith in him after his amazing high school career that they played him as their starting quarterback his very first year in college.
4. He brought Cal to their first bowl game in eight years.
After Jared set Pac-12 conference records with 4,719 yards and 43 touchdowns in the 2015, he brought the Golden Bears to their first bowl game since 2008. He was named MVP following his win in the Armed Forces Bowl over Air Force 55-36.
5. He appeared on the TV show Gridiron Outdoors.
Jared went on his very first hunting trip with his dad Jerry on the Outdoor Channel show Gridiron Outdoors. They went pig hunting in California’s central valley.
