Did you feel there was a severe lack of Jesse in ‘Pitch Perfect 2’? Well, you’re not alone. Skylar Astin told HollywoodLife.com in an EXCLUSIVE interview what he wants more of in the third movie — and it’s the Treblemakers!
Skylar Astin, 28, is ready to take on Pitch Perfect 3 when the time comes, but if he could have pick just one thing to be featured in the movie it would be a whole lot of his own a cappella group, the Treblemakers. In our EXCLUSIVE interview, the actor behind the swoon-worthy Jesse Swanson in the film reveals that a lot of his character’s storyline was actually cut from the second film, Pitch Perfect 2.
Yes, Pitch Perfect 3 is happening (it was confirmed in April 2015), and even though Skylar Astin has not officially signed back on, he spoke to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY about his hopes for the third movie. Oh, and he also spilled the beans on some major Jesse scenes that were cut from the second movie. Say what?!
“Obviously I have some personal stock and I would love there to be more Treblemakers and more Jesse,” Skylar told us when asked what he wants to see go down in the upcoming third film. “I missed a little bit of that from the second movie, just a little bit.” Aw, Skylar, we missed it, too!
Skylar continued, “There was some stuff that was actually cut from the second movie that explained a little bit more why Jesse went away for a while. I don’t know if they wanna maybe save that for a third so that’s why I won’t really get into the plot so much of that, but I’d be interested to watch them take a fun direction with Jesse and get to see that story again.”
Hmm. Although we totally loved Pitch Perfect 2, it did seem a little odd that Jesse and the Treblemakers took a backseat for most of the film. Fingers crossed that Skylar’s on to something with bringing the bad boys of a cappella back into the picture! (In case you missed it, Chrissie Fit told us she’s down to return for the third film, too!)
As for the plot details, Skylar shared that he doesn’t know a single thing about what’s really going down in Pitch Perfect 3. “Man, I can’t tell you anything really about ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ other than it’s the third movie of the ‘Pitch Perfect’ franchise. I wish I like, signed some non-disclosure something that I couldn’t tell you, but I really don’t know so I don’t even have to be a good liar,” Skylar explained. “I really don’t know where they are going to the story, where I fit in at the moment, and I’m okay with that because I’ve already dealt with that long lapse between the first and the second movie so I know how it slowly simmers, everyone talks about it, and then all of a sudden you know everything and you’re shooting it like, in a week.”
We were fortunate enough to talk with Skylar about his role in Pitch Perfect (and the upcoming television series Graves) when he partnered with Megabus to help spread the word about the incredible work they are doing for their 10th anniversary. “[…] they are planting, alongside with the Arbor Day Foundation, ten thousand trees alongside their bus routes and college campuses along their route. Putting out clean and good energy into the world for decades to come and really reducing carbon emissions and taking care of the environment that they are driving on,” Skylar told us.
