Olivia and Abby became fast frenemies and were willing to go way too far to get their candidates in the Oval Office. Plus, Mellie made a power play and revealed her fears about Olivia to Fitz.
It was Gladiator versus Gladiator on the April 28 episode of Scandal, and it wasn’t pretty. Abby and Olivia went head-to-head in a nasty battle, Fitz spilled a huge Olivia secret to Mellie, David made a dirty deal for Susan, and Olivia finally broke down and confronted what she did Andrew.

Abby and Olivia weren’t holding back. Their BFF status was a thing of the past. They were total frenemies now, and Sally Langston was loving it. It was all about Florida now. Mellie, Susan and Hollis had to get the favor of the Florida governor. She was the ticket to the nomination.
Olivia pulled a dirty Mean Girls move and cut Abby out of the elevator before heading to Florida. Burn. Abby retaliated by keeping Mellie’s plane from taking off by saying that Air Force One was having mechanical problems. Fitz found out about Abby’s shady move. There were no mechanical issues. She was actually breaking the law. During this stand-off, Abby and Olivia were desperate to spin this in their favor.
This whole situation stressed Mellie out. Fortunately, Marcus was able to keep her level-headed. Anyone else seeing something here?
Susan and her team had already made it to Florida, and the Florida governor had a private meeting with David. She liked Susan but didn’t think she was POTUS material. She was Team Mellie. However, if David dropped a certain investigation, she would endorse Susan. David went straight to Liz and Susan about his predicament. Liz was all for him taking the deal, but Susan was totally against it.
Shades Of Olivia
Something was up with Olivia, and Quinn and Huck couldn’t quite put their finger on it. Ever since she killed Andrew, Olivia was a different woman. Finally, Quinn spoke up, but then Huck chimed in. “Why are you here when you could be saving Jake?” Huck said. Olivia told them both off very quickly. Huck’s question really hit a nerve.
Mellie got to the point where she was ready to end this death match between Abby and Olivia. With help from Marcus, Mellie made the first move by walking outside to meet Fitz. Abby did NOT want Fitz to comply with what Mellie wanted, but Fitz couldn’t leave his ex hanging. Seriously, the optics would have been terrible.
Olivia was not happy about this power play, but then Fitz walked out. Fitz and Mellie were very cordial. “You’re doing great,” he told her. More than anything, she was concerned about Olivia. “She will kill her, Fitz,” Mellie said about Olivia regarding Abby. Fitz thought Mellie was sort of referring to Olivia killing Andrew, so he let it slip that Olivia had done the terrible deed. Mellie had thought it was Liz!
“She’s a different person,” Mellie told Fitz about Liv. “She’s there but not there.”
Fitz looked like he wanted to die when Mellie told him that Olivia wasn’t eating or sleeping well. All Fitz wanted to do was help, but he couldn’t. Not right now. Olitz forever.
Mellie told Fitz to get his plane in the air for her and Olivia. Fitz walked back up to Air Force One and told them all to take off. He also made Abby sit the hell down. Mellie went back to her private plane and told Olivia to stop bitching and make a new plan of attack.
The Great Wall Of Olivia
Mellie and Fitz made it to Governor Baker’s dinner — and showed up TOGETHER! Instead of fighting on opposite sides, they worked as a team. I love it when Mellie and Fitz work together. Mellie got her seat next to Governor Baker, too.
Susan made quite the statement when she opened her mouth, and Governor Baker noticed. David was so proud of her, but he ended up making the dirty deal with Baker. Baker ended up endorsing Susan, much to Mellie’s dismay. Olivia threw a cup against the wall. Huck stopped by her office later to talk about what happened with Andrew.
Olivia just let everything out. “It felt good crushing his face with that chair,” she told Huck. “I’m glad he’s dead.” Huck just waited for this front to pass, so Olivia could finally open up. She revealed that Rowan threatened to kill Jake. She completely broke down over it, and Huck held her as she cried.
Alex Vargas was still bugging Michael about getting dirt on Cyrus. Even though he knew in his heart that Cyrus was cheating (with Tom!), Michael tried to stay out of it. But he confronted Cyrus about his infidelity, and Cyrus flat out admitted it. Michael wanted to fix their marriage, but Cyrus didn’t want to do any of that. Cyrus proved once again that he will always be the worst. When Michael mentioned Tom, Cyrus threatened Tom’s life! But it was Michael who had the last laugh. He moved out of Cyrus’ house and took Ella with him!
Michael went straight to Alex with the dirt on Cyrus. But it wasn’t what Alex wanted. Even though he was planning to take down Cyrus by leaking photos of Francisco’s daughter, Alex took down himself. The photos came from his email. Yikes.
‘I’m Done Losing’
Abby went to Fitz and screamed at him. “I run you, you run the country,” she told him. That was the deal. She didn’t want to be blamed for Olivia killing Andrew. She wasn’t the one who pushed Olivia over the edge. She was just doing her job. Fitz calmed Abby down and stressed that she needed to create a line for herself.
Despite Governor Baker endorsing Susan, Hollis still won the primary. Abby went to OPA to make peace with Olivia. Liv confessed the real reason she had been so hard on Abby — she wanted the White House back. She hated losing. She was done losing. She had walked away once — because of Fitz — and she wasn’t going to do it again. Abby and Olivia decided to team up to take down Hollis.
