Authorities investigating what may have caused Prince’s tragic death reportedly found prescription opioid medication on his person and within his Minnesota home, a law enforcement official told CNN. The alleged pills were painkillers and the discovery of these drugs caused the authorities to contact the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to help with the case, according to CNN.
However, a spokesperson for the Carver County Sheriff’s office denies that the DEA has been called in. “The DEA is not part of this investigation at the time,” Jason Kamerud, told The Hollywood Reporter on April 28. The coroner’s office that conducted the autopsy on the “Purple Rain” singer also told THR that reports of what may have killed Prince are pure “speculation.” Stream Prince’s music, completely unlimited and ad-free, RIGHT HERE.
The sadness fans feel over Prince’s shocking death is only surpassed by the confusion over what may have ended his life. Prince was reportedly battling the flu for “several weeks” prior to his death. Prince had made four emergency visits to the pharmacy in days before his death, leading friends of the singer to EXCLUSIVELY tell HollywoodLife.com that everyone feared he was dealing with a “bigger disease” than the flu.

However, Prince may have been dealing with a drug addiction. When Prince’s private plane made an emergency landing on April 15, the singer was reportedly carried off the aircraft by his bodyguard into an awaiting ambulance. Prince was then given a “save shot” to combat an alleged opiate overdose, leading to more reports of Prince’s decades long battle with drug abuse.
Prince’s autopsy was completed on April 22, but the findings won’t be released until the toxicology results come back. Until then, the actual cause of Prince’s death remains a mystery, though a person claiming to be Prince’s drug dealer says that a mixture of painkillers to help Prince’s hip condition (combined with leg issues from years of wearing heels) led to Purple One’s death.
