Queen B honored Prince with a giant sing-along! At Beyonce’s opening show of her Formation World Tour in Miami, she paid tribute to the late legend by playing ‘Purple Rain.’ Watch the epic video right here!
What better way to honor Prince than to have 30,000 people sing his biggest hit? That’s exactly what Beyonce did in Miami’s Marlins Park on April 27 as she kicked off her Formation World Tour. Rather than singing “Purple Rain” herself, the 34-year-old singer allowed the crowd to do it — and it made for one of the most moving Prince tributes yet!

In between performing her own hits “Single Ladies” and “Crazy In Love,” Beyonce used her outfit change as an opportunity to salute Prince by playing “Purple Rain.” But in addition to playing the 1984 Prince fave over the speakers, Beyonce took her tribute one step further with a giant purple screen. And as if that wasn’t cool enough, the entire sold-out crowd waved their cell phones in the air to create quite a beautiful three-minute Prince memorial!
Later in the show, Beyonce thanked Prince for his “beautiful music,” and even dedicated a song to him. “God, thank you for speaking through this beautiful artist that inspired all of us,” she said. Following Prince’s April 21 death, tons of stars from Rihanna to Bruce Springsteen have paid their respects to the Purple One on stage, but Beyonce’s was certainly one of the best!
As moving as Beyonce’s Prince tribute may have been, though, perhaps the most notable part of the night was her shout-out to her hubby, Jay Z. After she dropped her surprise album, Lemonade, on April 23, Jay’s cheating scandals resurfaced as Beyonce seemingly called out her man for his infidelity. This also made fans question the state of their marriage, wondering if two of music’s biggest names were headed for divorce. But despite the shocking claims in her new songs, Beyonce dedicated her final song, “Halo,” to her man and their family — and shut all the rumors down!
“I want to dedicate this song to my family, thank you guys for supporting me,” she announced, as Jay Z watched lovingly from the crowd. “I want to dedicate this song to my beautiful husband, I love you so much.”
Between a Prince tribute and a special dedication to Jay Z, Beyonce certainly kicked off her tour in a mind-blowing way. And considering she still has 41 dates left, we can only imagine what craziness will ensue as the tour goes on!
