ABC had to do a whole lot of groveling to get back in Kelly Ripa’s good graces after blindsiding her with news that Michael Strahan will be leaving ‘Live’ next fall. The talk show host reportedly got a personal apology from the top dogs themselves, and is ready to put the controversy behind her.
Kelly Ripa, 45, is just hours from returning to her job co-hosting Live! with Michael Strahan, 44, but her decision to come back didn’t come without some doing behind the scenes. The past week has been full of drama, and it concluded with executives at ABC fiercely apologizing to Kelly for the way everything went down, according to a new report.

Considering she found out Michael would be leaving her show at the very same time viewers did on April 19, Kelly was understandably caught off guard. “[ABC execs] expressed regret for the way Kelly was told the news,” a source told CNN. “We had a plan, which obviously did not go as planned.”
Kelly got a personal apology from Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, along with ABC stations president Rebecca Campbell and ABC News president James Goldston, according to the report. She is set to return to the show on April 26 after taking a week off, and wants things to go smoothly.
In fact, regardless of how she really feels toward Michael, the 45-year-old is planning to at least act like everything is totally fine when they’re on-camera together. After all, they’ll have to work together through the summer, as Michael’s full-time role on Good Morning America isn’t starting until September.
But that doesn’t mean the former football star isn’t feeling anxious about coming face-to-face with Kelly again! “He’s nervous as hell about Tuesday,” an insider told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He wants to see Kelly on-air first rather than backstage, because he knows that it is going to be very awkward. He feels like seeing her on TV will lighten up her anger, but for the most part, he wants it over with and wishes it was already Wednesday!”
UFC fighter Conor McGregor is the pair’s first guest for their reunion show, and since we already know he plans on teasing them about everything that happened, we’re totally ready for the LOLs and awkwardness. Stay tuned for updates!
How do you think ABC and Michael can make this up to Kelly, HollywoodLifers?
