Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato are standing for equality with a bold move. The pair have decided to cancel two of their tour stops in North Carolina to protest their recently passed anti LGBT bill!
Nick Jonas, 23, and Demi Lovato, 23, are standing in unison to support those affected by HB2 in North Carolina. They have canceled their Honda Civic Tour: Future Now stops in both Raleigh and Charlotte. Not only that, the two shared a powerful message with fans via Twitter that detailed their views on the HB2 law, and called for support and understanding from fans. see it here!
As per usual, these two longtime friends are showing that they are a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, and using their massive influence to stand for causes that are important to them. The pair posted a message to their twitter accounts — at the exact same time — to show they are standing in solidarity with the LGBT community and those affected by the HB2 law that was passed in North Carolina.
The law stops those who wish to use restrooms that align with their own personal gender identities. Many celebrities have shown their dislike for the law, but this may be the biggest show of support so far. While Demi is always very open to expressing her opinions, which has gotten her in trouble at times, this message is one that many fans are agreeing with, even if it does mean less tour dates for the two.
Demi and Nick have proven they are a force to be reckoned with and have been voices for this community for a longtime. Demi even won the Vanguard Award at the GLAAD Media awards, which goes to media professionals who make a difference in promoting equality and acceptance. The award was presented to her by Nick, so it comes as no surprise that they would use their show as a soapbox for this cause.
This may not repeal the bill any time soon, but it does go to show that the voices of those in North Carolina are being heard, and people are acting out. Nick and Demi are quite the team, it will be interesting to see what problem they tackle next. Maybe world hunger? No matter what, one thing is for sure, they are definitely proving that the future is now.
