Prince reportedly overdosed on Percocet just five days before his untimely death on April 21, and police are now investigating the incident, according to a new report from the Mirror. They’re allegedly planning to talk to the iconic singer’s entourage to find out just what happened that fateful day. So sad!

Prince had reportedly overdosed on Percocet while he was onboard a flight traveling from Atlanta, where he had just performed in concert, back home to Minnesota. The situation was so dire that the plane diverted to an airport in Moline, Illinois, despite being under an hour from home, in order to get him immediate medical care. Now police are attempting to sit down each and every person aboard that flight to get to the bottom of the incident, according to a source who spoke to the Mirror.
“We understand Prince suffered chronic pain after developing a hip problem. Naturally he took painkillers to ease his troubles but police are looking into if he was prescribed too many,” a police source told the site. We have seen in the case of Jackson how people can acquire large quantities of drugs when really they should be monitored.” By Jackson, the source is referring to Michael Jackson, who died from cardiac arrest following a drug overdose. How terrifying.
When Prince’s plane grounded in Moline, he was allegedly administered a “save shot,” an injection that counteracts an oxycodone (the active ingredient in Percocet) overdose. He was advised to stay in the hospital for 24 hours, but declined and went home after three hours when he found out he couldn’t have a private room, according to the Mirror. In a haunting detail, Prince joked with fans at a party the next day that they should “save their prayers for a few days” before they actually started getting worried about him.
It’s unknown if drugs had anything to do with his death at this point. Though an autopsy has been completed, the results won’t be released until a toxicology screening comes back. Suicide has been ruled out, and there were no signs of trauma on his body, which was found in the elevator at his Paisley Park complex. This is just so unimaginably sad, and we hope the police can find what they’re looking for!
