UPDATE: The autopsy was completed at 1:00 p.m. local time and the body will be released to the family, but results are still “pending.”
Unfortunately, it might not be a few weeks until we know results. “Nothing will be released until everything is complete,” Martha Weaver, a spokesperson for the Midwest Medical Examiner’s office, told The Hollywood Reporter. “Nothing can be reported with a pending status.”
Chief Medical Examiner A. Quinn Strobl, a board-certified forensic, anatomic and clinical pathologist, is performing the autopsy, the Medical Examiner’s office confirmed. Remember Prince by streaming his greatest hits here.
“As part of the complete exam, relevant information regarding Mr. Nelson’s medical and social history will be gathered,” a press release read. “Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration. Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office will not release information until the exam is complete and all results are obtained. Gathering the results will take several days and the results of a full toxicology scan could likely take weeks. Public information will be provided as soon as its available in accordance with the investigation.”
Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at his home in Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota on April 21, and although first responders attempted to revive him with CPR, he was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.
Days before his untimely death at just 57-years-old, the singer reportedly overdosed on Percocet while flying back home from a concert in Atlanta. His plane had to make an emergency landing in Illinois, where EMTs allegedly gave him a ‘save shot’ to stop the overdose. It has NOT yet been confirmed if drugs were involved in his death.
