If there’s one thing everyone can agree on, it’s the fact that when thinking of Prince, you can’t help but smile. We also can’t help but remember this epic Chapelle’s Show skit featuring Charlie Murphy describing a moment when he and Eddie Murphy were invited to Prince’s home — a true story. In the skit, Dave Chappelle plays Prince and well, it’s hysterical.
The skit was actually based on a true story when Prince — in purple — actually had the Murphy brothers over for a game of basketball. He later served them pancakes. Listen to Prince completely ad-free with an Amazon music trial!
“They were good, man. They were really good. They were actually perfect,” Charlie Murphy has said of the pancakes in an interview with Las Vegas Review Journal. “They were as good as he played guitar.”

One of the best parts was that Prince was in on this joke — and loved it. In 2013, he wrote a song inspired by the sketch called “Breakfast Can Wait,” and the cover art featured Dave dressed as him holding a plate of pancakes. The following here, Dave Chappelle raved over Prince on The Tonight Show.
“That’s a Prince judo move right there… you make fun of Prince in a sketch and he’ll just use you in his album cover,” he said. “What am I going to do — sue him for using a picture of me dressed up like him?… That’s checkmate right there.”

Following Prince’s passing on April 21, Chappelle released a statement. “‘I’m blown away. May he rest in peace. Music has lost one of its greatest icons.” We have to say, we agree. Watch the skit below!
