A little bit of rain was never going to stop Prince from putting on a live show — especially at a major event like the Super Bowl. The singer performed the 2007 Halftime Show for millions of viewers in the middle of a massive rainstorm, and it will forever go down as one of the most epic live performances of all time.
Prince never shied away from the phrase ‘The Show Must Go On.’ We know he proved that by performing while battling the flu just one week before his death, but nine years earlier, he also showed just how dedicated he was to his work by doing the 2007 Super Bowl Halftime Show in the middle of a torrential downpour. What better way to honor Prince’s memory on the day of his tragic passing than by looking back at arguably his most iconic performance ever? As rain poured down in Miami during the 2007 Super Bowl, the legendary singer took the stage to sing a medley of his songs and covers of other artists, closing out with his biggest hit, “Purple Rain.”
The whole thing was absolutely epic, and proved what an amazing artist Prince was and will always be remembered as. Sadly, the legendary singer was found dead in his home on April 21, but at least we will always have performances like this to remember him by.
Prince’s cause of death is still unknown, but as HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY told you, friends were very concerned about him in the days leading up to the tragedy. “He hasn’t been feeling well all week,” an insider told us EXCLUSIVELY. “He’s tenacious and wanted to go out, while his people wanted him to stay home and rest.”
Despite battling the flu, he even performed a concert on April 14, just one week before he died. But on the way home, he was feeling so sick that his plane made an emergency landing and he was rushed to the hospital.
Although he was discharged a few hours later, the 57-year-old made a point to prove to fans he was okay by hosting a dance party at his compound on April 16, and making an optimistic statement about everything going on. “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers,” he told the crowd of about 200.
He clearly wasn’t doing as well as he let on, though, and we were so devastated to hear the news of his death on April 21. Keep Prince’s memory alive by watching the video above and checking out more of his best live performances ever here.
