In a heartbreaking statement, Prince’s first wife, Mayte Garcia, reveals that he was her ‘everything’ and that she believes he is with their son now. So sad.
Mayte Garcia, 42, has released a very emotional statement about the death of her ex-husband, Prince, who was just 57 years old when he passed away on April 21. The full statement mentions their son, Boy Gregory, who lived for only one week when he was born in late 1996.
“I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling,” Mayte said in a lengthy statement to People magazine. “This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated.” Her words cut deep, as Mayte was not only Prince’s first wife, but also the mother of his only child.
“I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally,” her statement continued. “He’s with our son now.”
For those of you who are unaware, Prince and Mayte welcomed a baby boy named Gregory into the world in 1996, the same year they wed. Unfortunately, the baby was born with Pfeiffer syndrome, which is a genetic disorder that effects the skull and bones. Gregory passed away after a week of life, leaving his parents heartbroken forever. Now, Prince and Gregory have been reunited in the afterlife, Mayte truly believes. Mayte broke down in tears outside her LA home on April 22 when asked about Prince. So sad.
Mayte has also revealed that after losing their son, she had a miscarriage with a second child belonging to Prince. Sadly, the couple were never able to move past their heartache, and they eventually split for good in 1999.
Our thoughts remain with Prince’s family and friends during this very difficult time.
