What? Donald Trump is denouncing Harriet Tubman as the new face of the $20 bill, instead defending slavery owner Andrew Jackson — who also committed genocide against Native Americans — and calling him ‘tremendous’.
This so crazy. Donald Trump, 69, thinks it’s wrong for the African-American abolitionist Harriet Tubman to be put on the $20 bill, because of course he does. Read his whackadoodle comments from an April 21 interview on the TODAY Show here.
Yep, Donald Trump thinks that Harriet Tubman should stay off the $20 bill. “Andrew Jackson had a great history. I think it’s very rough when you take somebody off the bill, Trump said. “Andrew Jackson had a history of tremendous success for the country.” Uh, actually, Jackson had a history of pioneering movements like the Trail of Tears, a removal policy where the Cherokee nation was forced to give up its land. What a great guy. “I think it’s pure political correctness (to replace Jackson). (He’s) been on the bill for many, many years and really represented somebody that was really very important to this country,” Trump added. We can bet that if Trump was offered the position, though, he’d write off Jackson in a heartbeat.
The historic decision to put Harriet on the bill was made on April 20 by the US Treasury, though the seventh president of the United States will still be depicted on the back. Harriet, who was deemed the “Moses of Her People”, was one of the Underground Railroad’s most successful workers. She was also the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the Civil War, and advocated for women’s rights. Without a doubt, she is a great choice for the $20 bill!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Trump is wrong?
